I have shopped at Safeway for years, even worked at it in the past. Slowly I have seen the service get worse and worse. Today topped the cake. 10 minutes of waiting in line and no qc called. When it was I was still waiting and a lady who just walked up got taken.

In Thunder Bay, ON at the Safeway on Arthur Street I have had nothing but issues with an employee named Wendy. Unsure of her last name. But she has been very rude to her co-workers (I have noticed it on several occasions). If she has an issue with her co-workers she should not be directing it in front of customers of Safeway. She is not just rude towards her co-workers but several of the customers as well. One specific incident that I have noticed is the express lane had a huge line-up so a young girl went into express lane#8, and Wendy had a freak out and slammed the "Please use next check stand" right infront of the customer so he knew that #8 was closed. I remember hearing someone say regular check stand service and I guess the young girl was the only available person, aside from Wendy and Wendy wanted her in a regular til. SO that was just 1 of many incidents that occurred only while I was there. That young girl was already in a til so instead of Wendy being lazy, she should've went in a til and helped out. Very unimpressed. Ever since then, I have not shopped at that Safeway.

I had a terrible experience in the Crestview Safeway in Winnipeg on October 15, 2015 at 6:15 PM. I went in to pick up a few items then on to the express checkout line. The customer in front of me had a great deal of trouble getting a product so the line was slow and people were fussing. I had an item of buy one get one free. The item did not scan so the cashier called a clerk to check the price. You can imagine the mood of the line by the time the clerk returned. I was embarrassed. The clerk said the item was not on sale, I should have checked if the sign said assorted varieties. I told him I had but never mind already, skip the items. My purchases were finally rung through, a manager appeared, clerk said those items are not on sale right?? Manager said yes, they were on sale. By this time I just took my stuff and walked away, telling cashier I did not need my sales receipt. A moment later the clerk came running after me, calling loudly 'ma'am you forgot your receipt'. I guess I was not already embarrassed enough. I got the phone number of the store manager and was assured I could call him another day but he was already gone for the day. I tried calling just now but was told he is on 2 weeks holiday. This does not meet my expectations of basic customer service!!

My husband, daughter and I went to safeway westmount edmonton division store number 838 yesterday September 6. Since school is starting so we decided to buy some stuffs for our kid. My husband took a basket and started to take some items and same as me. My husband told me that he needs to go somewhere to grab some things for sandwiches and me stayed to another section of the store. Since I dont have the basket with me, items are started to piling on my hands and I even used my daughter's hands too. Since we are near the door and I saw this lady (her name is Antoinette) sorting baskets by the door but she is at outside part, I ask her a favor, I was even smiling, " I said, can you do me favor? Can you pass me one basket please?" I cannot get through the door because those items that we were holding are not scanned yet and the detector is in between of us. This Antoinette wave her hand and told to me to "come and get one". That was unbelieveable. Worst customer service ever. It will not kill her to pass through the door and hand me one basket wherein fact that is her job. I was so mad and told her "ohhh yeah, never mind then. Thank you. I can get one myself. You are too nice!". So I went to one of the counters and grab one with these pile of boxes on our hands. I am not sure if she followed me because I saw her again and telling me again " i am telling you to get one". I answered her same thing but I was already shaking. Simple things supposedly that can make your customer smile because of your help but can ruin the day too and make you decide not to come back on this location again. I know that you have still have lots of customers coming but who knows with this kind of employee atittude, she might be pushing some more someday.

I work in a customer service industry too as a manager so I know how it is supposed to be. Proper training is my suggestion.

Expired food on Sale

Southgate Safeway in Edmonton on Oct 18th. The cheese aisle Last Sunday and all the spreadable cheeses from Black Diamond are on sale. So i look at the bottoms of several containers of various flavours. They have all expired. One on the containers of Black Diamond Jalapeno Cheese spread expired on Sept 3rd, 2015 and Safeway is trying to sell it 6 weeks after it has expired by putting it on sale. Are you trying to poison your customers? This is not the first time this has happened. Same Sunday and I needed to bake some bread but i needed fresh yeast. The jars of Bakipan brand bread yeast from the baking aisle are all expired. Not by a few weeks but actually 9 months past expiration date.

I agree its so sad when you and i work hard for our money and the store is putting old food on the shelf. I have had that happen to me so much at safeway...

Not to mention the price errors and staff refuse to know what the proper pricing law is and how it works. If you try to exercise it its like a big deal.

Safeway Canada - Cake Review from Winnipeg, Manitoba

September 15, 2015 at around 7:40 PM. me and my husband went to The Safeway store at Marion Street, Winnipeg to find a birthday cake for our child.

We went to the bakery area and decided to get a cake, but no body there. We saw a sign that we can ask help from the customer service. We went there and there were two times announcements to get the customer service at the bakery area. We had been waited for almost 30 minutes but no one came.

My husband went to ask for help again as we can't do it by ourselves. Waited for another 10 more minutes but no one came, my husband became angry about the service. The lady at the cashier told us that they are closed. Then we went to the cashier asking to get a floating balloon which already prepared at the cashier, the guy responded that we needed to contact the customer service whether we can buy it.

(I was amazed of how these cashier were train to response to their customers, by being pushing away to customer services but no one is working there!) I asked him back that should I contact by myself or is you to contact? ( I think it is his job not me) a minute later, the customer service appeared and started to complained that she went to the bakery area and couldn't find us, while I heard another cashier saying that "the big people is here!" This made me so angry but I didn't want to response to her. I wanted to complain that this shouldn't be the practice for employee to say that to customers. I didnt expect any special treat at all, just a regular services that Safeway can do simply.

We are very disappointed.

We always purchase grocery from Safeway. Today, I m reluctant to go.

Terrible Customer Service

Had a terrible experience this morning at the Cranbrook Safeway... Did not receive my gas coupon (spent $38, you only have to spend $35) so I asked the self checkout attendant about it... After giving me numerous excuses she stated that she didn't know why and that I would have to go over to the gas bar and figure it out. I said that I wasn't going to do that... I shouldn't have to do that. So then she told me she doesn't do that stuff and to maybe go over to the customer service desk and then she walked away!...I told her that wasn't very good customer service, she told me to have a good day! I went to customer service and the asst manager helped me. I told her about the clerk but she didn't seem interested, so that was the end of that. This same clerk two weeks ago...I told her I'd not received the sale price for cherries... so she wanders over to the produce section and never comes back....so I wait and I wait and I wait. It was almost 10 minutes....I decide that maybe I'd go looking for her as I couldn't check out and leave. Here she's wandering around the produce isle taking down sale signs. When she sees me, she say, oh, you can tell them to give you the sale price... I said I've been waiting for you, why didn't you come back..."oh I'm just changing signs she says...." I really dislike going through self checkout when she's working. I've been in customer service myself for 35 years and ALWAYS give great CS, so it frustrates me when I get bad service. I know the staff is not happy there, but you're still getting paid to do a job...so please give the best customer service you can...even if its for your own satisfaction.

Laundry Detergent Review

I bought a laundry detergent soap at safeway henderson winnipeg the white lady cashier said the soap is on sale "buy one get one" its really convenient to me as a shopper but my excitement was turn to disappointment when I was going to grab another soap ....because the white lady cashier was yelling to me says"""HURRY UP....HURRY UP!!!! how so rude I'm a customer!!!

I had a terrible experience at the Motgomery Safeway. There was no one at customer service to help me and when the general manager was called to come to customer service she never showed up. When I try to call any department all lines no matter what department I called automatically put me on hold. I will never shop at Safeway again. Ever since Safeway has been bought by Sobeys it has been going down hill. I used to only shop at Safeway, but like I said earlier I will take my business to Coop from now on.

T-Bone steak not displayed when on sale

Safeway and Co-op have T-bone steaks on sale every 3 weeks or so.

I watch for the sales and look at the meat. i like to find a steak with marbling and a large fillet, with trimmed fat.

The Safeway stores in my neighborhood have consistently and purposely not had the T-Bone's out for display. They do not even have the sticker out for the meat.

This is not a mistake or that they are out of stock, no it is because they do not sell enough of these type of steaks in my neighborhood.

This is a sale item that is in there flyer.

I go there purposely to view and possibly buy a steak.

Never Wash their Shopping Carts

I have shopped at Safeway for many years now and ocassionally shop at both Sobeys and Calgary Co-op. I just cannot get over how really disgusting Safeway's carts are to use. On my last visit I tried not to look at the garbage that was stuffed into the cup holder along with old crayons jammed between the frame. The plastic carts are so black from dirt that I'm worried about placing anything in them, let alone food we eat! Don't they ever clean them? At Co-op they have metal carts, at least at the one up on 85th street. They are so clean. What a difference. Clean up your act Safeway.

Cashier berating other employee.

On May 20th 2015 I was shopping at Colosseum Safeway, Edmonton. Since the takeover most of the good cashiers have left the employ at this location. On the day in question I had a number of items to purchase and got in line with my favorite cashier, this was going well, but the unprofessional behavior at the next till upset me. The cashier,Ling, who also one who gives excellent customer service, was loudly being berated by another cashier named Paul. It seems that in a previous conversation he had felt that she interrupted him, he loudly demanded an apology and would not accept her saying sorry as he didn't think she was sincere. When she pointed out he was yelling his response was that he was just talking loudly for emphasis. If this wasn't enough he came back to her twice and started to try to get it going again, I saw him start forward again from the customer service counter, but he must have thought better of it and stayed there. Despite this disgusting display of Paul's behavior both female cashiers conducted themselves with dignity. I have managed many businesses over the years and would never berate an employee or fellow worker in front of customers. She may have owed him an apology or not but it needed to be handled more discreetly. I don't think I was the only shocked person in the two lines that was shocked and embarrassed by this situation

I never give a feedback to any retail I go but this experience was the worst one I ever encountered in my life..I went to safeway gas bar at 32nd ave and 36 street in the NE Calgary this morning around 8:50..Lets start with your gas filling station.I tried to pay debit 3 times but it always says remove and reinsert.what a waste of time....then go inside the store to pay but rudely treated by staff named Ching.I asked the guy named Alex why the debit doesn't work in the gas machine and he it never worked then suddenly approached by Ching and asked me how did you insert your card with a sarcastic voice..when I told her "I inserted it chip in" .She said"No that machine has no chip reader so you have to insert it the other way".."you have to learn how to read the instruction before you asked us..she told

me with a sarcastic voice and look me like I am so ***...while she drinking her coffee..I was so disappointed with the service..There's no even instruction on the machine says no chip reader...Hellooooo every one else has a chip reader at this time..Who would people think that this big gas bar has no chip reader.No one said Hi....in the first place and yet very rude staff...Not good to start a morning...That lady needs more training in customer service.Hope this feedback helps you improve and hope this won't happen to anyone else...I will not comeback to any of your groceries nor gas stations ever..

Next time take an adult with you and you won't have this issue. Not their fault you cannot read.

Canada is an English speaking country so you must be a child that stole your parents card and car with your terrible spelling and grammar. I doubt you will be missed, and you probably won't be back out of fear that they will tell your parents you stole their card and car.

Where do I complain about a store manager? I always get my breakfast bagel with cream cheese on one side and guacamole on the other side without having to pay extra. I have been getting this breakfast bagel for many months. There's this new manager in the store who refused to give me the bagel with guacamole unless I am willing to pay extra .50 cents. I have no problem paying the .50 cents extra but when I questioned about why suddenly the policy has changed she totally gave me a very cold unacceptable body language which made me feel really bad and I thought I will never come back to this store again.
